MANILA, Philippines -- The first-ever “high-five” experience in the country happens when Kim Hyun Joong visits the country in The Hi-Five Touch Event on Aug. 25 at the TriNoma Activity Center to promote his brand new album “Break down,” distributed by PolyEast Records.

All music fans have to do is buy a copy of “Break down” at the event through Astroplus after which a special lotte card will be issued and exchanged for a High 5 touch pass issued by TriNoma. Note that there will be no ticket selling, no autograph signing, no meet & greet nor picture-taking but just a simple “gimme me five” up-close and personal moment with Kim Hyun Joong.

Kim Hyun Joong debuts with the album “Break down” as he displays a different persona compared to his SS501 days. Hyun Joong has taken the most generic route out of all the SS501 member's solo activities—typical synthesizer instrumentals, heavy beats and catchy choruses as well as bubblegum pop.

After rounding up his tour both in the US and South Korea, Kim Hyun Joong hit back the studio and recorded this mini-album with KAT-TUN producer Steven Lee.

Kim Hyun Joong’s involvement in making the album together with Japanese group V6 and Lee allowed him to reveal his talent as a solo artist. “Break Down” consists of six songs, with one instrumental version of the title track.

The title track is a powerful synthesized song with an urban style which features the stylish rapping of South Korea’s Double K; and Ken Lewis (Eminem, Kanye West, Usher and John Legend) as the single’s producer. The music video for "Break Down" was simultaneously released with the single’s digital release.

Marking his comeback to the music scene, the album also features the previously released single “Please” in which Kim Hyun Joong portrayed a different and mature image in his music video. Other album highlights include “Intro (Let Me Go)” which opens with a magnificent pipe organ melody. Also in the album is the song “Kiss Kiss,” another pop/dance song interestingly accompanied with an acoustic guitar, as well as the dance-y, “Yes I Will.”

Aside from the Philippines, “Break Down” will also be released in South Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Songs

SS501 (pronounced as Double-S 501 or Deo Beul E Seu Oh Gong Il) is a South Korean boyband. SS501 debuted in 8 June 2005 with their first single “경고” (“Warning”), with a second single “Snow Prince” released in late 2005.

SS501 is ranked as the third most popular Korea Boyband after Tohoshinki and Big Bang. One of the main attractions of SS501 is the leader Kim Hyun Joong, who famous also for his role in Korea drama “Boys Before Flowers”.

How the group SS501 formed ?

The 5 members of the band were either chosen through auditions for scouted by casting directors of the management agency. However, all the members went through fierce musical and dance trainings before they could perform as a band. However, although the members of the band started their careers as singers, each of them will eventually challenge other genres like acting or producing music. From the beginning, each of the member’s performance areas will not be limited to only singing. Hyun-joong and Jung-min are interested in acting. They are currently being trained in acting and will appear on stages or screens if they have a chance to. Hyung-joon and Young-saeng will also be performing as solo singers as well as with the band. Kyu-jong who is very much interested in making music will undergo various musical training and eventually become a producer.

What is the meaning of SS501 ?
The name of SS501 is a combination of the alphabet and numbers that have special meanings for the band members. The first “S” stands for the “Sun” and the “Star.” The second “S” is an abbreviation for “Singer.” The number 5,0 and 1 means ‘the 5 members of the band become one.’ In other words, the name SS501 means that 5 members gathered together to become singers and later in the future, big stars in the entertainment world.

SS501 and Boys Before Flowers
Boys Over Flower Acting Debut: In 2009, Leader Kim Hyun Joong appeared in the highly anticipated Korean remake of popular Japanese Manga, “Hana Yori Dango”. Hyun Joong played the role of Yoon Ji Hoo, the F4 violinist that falls for the main character. Hyun Joong received huge praises from the drama and even went on to wining The Male Popularity Award at the 45 Baeksang Awards.

Sub Unit Formation: In late 2008, three of the five members formed a sub unit initially called Triple S, after their official fan club. The group debuted with the mini album entitled U R Man on November 27. 2008. Their title song, U R Man went on to win the YTN Seoul Music Awards (Hallyusang + Bonsang) making them the male first group to win an award in the year 2009 for best song.

On September 2009, during promotions in Japan for Boys Over Flowers, Kim Hyun Joong was diagnosed with H1N1.^[1] While recovering from H1N1, he could not attend Seoul's International Drama Awards. To accept the award on his behalf, his members of SS501, Heo Young Saeng, Kim Kyu Jong, and Kim Hyung Jun were present for the award show. He recovered from H1N1 and was discharged on September 15, 2009.
